We want everyone to remember that the only silly question is one that is left unasked!

For your convenience, we've included some of our most common questions below. But don't hesitate to ask additional questions when you see us.

CEREC Dental Crowns

Smile | Dental crowns Green VillageThere are plenty of reasons you might need a dental crown. One of the most common is to strengthen a back molar that previously had a very large filling in it. Over time, fillings—especially metal, amalgam fillings—start to pull away from the tooth, meaning they are no longer effectively protecting the tooth from bacteria and decay. They can also cause the tooth to develop fractures.

Purposes of Dental Crowns

With a particularly large filling in the tooth, much of the original tooth structure has been drilled away. Often there is not enough left to put in another filling. In this situation, a dental crown is the best option. A crown is a tooth cover—or “cap”—that fits over a prepared tooth, making it strong and protecting it against bacteria and decay.

Another common use for a dental crown is to cover a tooth that has undergone a root canal. Because a root canal removes the living tissue of a tooth, the tooth becomes brittle afterward. Placing a crown over the tooth restores its strength and function.

We often use dental crowns for cosmetic purposes, covering up a tooth that is misshapen or stained.

Cosmetic Dentistry

If you have noticed that your teeth are getting more yellow as you get older, this is not uncommon. As we age, the enamel on the outside of our teeth begins to thin, exposing more of the dentin below the surface, which is yellow. This will give your teeth a yellowish cast that can grow more obvious over the years.Woman | Teeth whitening green village nj

Professional teeth whitening can whiten your teeth, giving you a youthful smile—and taking years off your smile as a result.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

At Vaccaro Aesthetic and Family Dentistry, we offer both in-office whitening and at-home whitening kits. If you opt for in-office teeth whitening, you can expect your appointment to take about an hour, and you will leave our dental office with whiter teeth than when you came in.

At-Home Whitening Kits

Our at-home kits come with custom trays to make teeth whitening more effective than ever. Dr. Matthew Vaccaro will give you instructions, but most patients use the trays and the whitening gel every day for a period of about two weeks. Your smile should be several shades whiter and brighter.

If you have lifestyle habits, such as drinking coffee or tea or smoking, you should avoid these to keep your smile as white as possible. We also recommend you use the whitening kits for touch-ups as needed to help keep your smile as white as you’d like it to be.

Dental Implants

If you are missing one or more teeth, you might have done some research on the best option for tooth replacement. Chances are, your research led you to dental implants. But are you a good candidate for dental implants?

Requirements for Dental Implants

The good news is that most people are. Some of the requirements for a successful dental implant procedure include:

  • Gums that are healthy
  • People who are in good overall health
  • Enough jawbone to permanently anchor the dental implants
  • A commitment to taking good care of one’s oral health, including the implants, the surrounding teeth, and the gums
  • Lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking that can increase the chances for successful implants

If your jawbone has deteriorated because of your tooth loss, you still might be able to get dental implants with procedures such as bone grafting.

Preventive Dentistry

For most patients, getting their teeth cleaned is not a painful procedure. A dental cleaning consists of your hygienist removing plaque and tartar from all the tough-to-reach places in your mouth that even the most diligent brushing and flossing cannot get rid of. Some patients might find this part of the appointment somewhat uncomfortable but not really painful. Woman | Dentist Green Village NJ

Next, your hygienist will polish your teeth. This gives your teeth that smooth, clean feeling that most people enjoy after a tooth cleaning. Because the paste used for polishing is somewhat gritty, your hygienist will usually follow this part of the cleaning with a thorough flossing.

This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you might have about keeping your teeth clean at home. If you have questions about products, your hygienist will be happy to answer them.
